"Singapore's premiere satirical website" just keeps getting better and better. I quote from talkingcock.com (oops it is not in my list of links):

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Ah Beng,

How many MPs does it take to change a lightbulb?

Sincerely,

In the Dark

Dear In the Dark,

Not say I say what, hor, but it definitely takes more than just MPs.

At first they ignore the problem and pretend it doesn't exist but then when the kao peh kao bu-ing gets too bad, the PM will blame the citizens for not changing the light bulbs themselves.

Around the same time, an elder statesman will go on TV to scold Singaporeans for forgetting that back in the 60s, it was the Gahmen who provided the lightbulbs in the first place.

All this changes when suddenly one night, a highly placed MP or GLC CEO's own lightbulb breaks down. Then he realises maybe it's time for Singapore to do something.

Next, what they do is to form a high-power task force with 10 subcommittees to study the best way to do the job.

However, before the report is even complete, the recommendations are rejected as unrealistic.

What the MPs then do is to hire one expensive Foreign Talent from a 3rd-rate company in the US to come help install it.

This Foreign Talent then hires 3 Foreign Talents from India to develop the software and 10 Foreign Talents from China to build the ladder.

The highly paid ang mor Foreign Talent in charge disagrees with his bosses and is sacked and replaced with a GLC crony.

They get a PR from Malaysia to climb the ladder. (This PR probably previously climbed Mt Everest, so it's quite a senang job for him.)

The lightbulb is finally changed and the MPs throw a big celebration. SPH and TCS go on a spree covering the breakthrough and say how 'creative' and 'enterprenurinal' (not my spelling, hor....) Singaporeans are.

But, hor, it’s all too late, because the people who wanted the lightbulb fixed in the first place got si beh too lan and migrated to Australia.

Ah Beng

This is so damned true, and it made me laugh simply because it is. Prime satire indeed (for me at least; I know a few snooty-noses out there thinking they are very witty, who would turn away and dismiss it as poor; they can go to the devil). Very well done indeed.
