Basket.

In the stillness of night, only one light burns still... mine.

My neighbourhood seems to retire early. Even the students, which to me is a mystery, unless they work by candlelight or something.

It was a busy week, this one just past. I got my stitches out, which was a study in just how much pain I could stand. The answer is, quite a lot. Really, I surprise myself. I also find that being a doctor or a nurse, you basically have a mandate to be brutal to people. Because the first thing that damn doctor did when I entered his office was grab my finger where it hurt the most and try to, I don't know, rip off the dressing. It's a good thing I psyched myself for this appointment to hurt and took a healthy dose of painkillers beforehand. It still hurt as the nurse went at my wounds with a pair of scissors, tweezers and a good, fine needle, but I think it could have hurt a lot worse. I also realise that when a nurse apologises before going at you with her tools, what she is about to do is going to be PAINFUL.

My MC was extended to 17 August, which is the date of the next appointment. I hope the hole at the top of my finger would have closed by then, because it is just slightly uncomfortable to look down at your unwrapped finger and have glistening white bone smile back up at you.

Friday, I went again to get together with Sean, which is fitting since we are just about the two people in Singapore with the most spare time at the moment. Gen found the time to join us and we spent an afternoon just sitting around talking.

Saturday, I join Winston bubbling like a little kid over fireworks (I really don't see the fuss, forgive me Winston) at Marina Bay. He said it made up for the time on New Years' Eve (which we also spent together in town) when they didn't have any, and I guess that's actually really sweet. The display was nice and we had a good time down by the bay in the quiet night with the sea breeze in our faces.

I may have said this before, but I'll say it again. It's always the people who make life worthwhile. I just don't know what I'll do without all my friends and their lovely little idiosyncracies. You're far from the only one, Winston. ;)
